Tour Ludington Area Lighthouses!

Over 4 Lighthouses Nearby!

Downtown Ludington's North Breakwater Lighthouse, just 2 miles away!

Ludington’s North Breakwater Lighthouse at Stearns Beach is the most popular and most photographed structure in the area. Strolling along the long breakwall is a favorite activity in the summer, and if your timing is right, you can watch the S.S. Badger carferry sail in or out of Ludington. This historic lighthouse was built in 1871 and replaced in 1924. In the summer of 2007, tours of the North Breakwater Lighthouse were offered on weekends during the summertime, under the direction of the Lighthouse Keepers Association. Well over 5,000 visitors toured the lighthouse and more will be expected in the coming year.

Big Sable Point Lighthouse within the Ludington State Park - Only 6 miles away!

The Big Sable Point Lighthouse is located in the Ludington State Park, just a few miles north of town. It can be accessed by hiking north 1.5 miles from the Visitor Center. The 112’ black and white tower was built in 1867 and is one of the tallest on Lake Michigan. It has been renovated over the years, and the Lighthouse Keepers Association also maintains the upkeep and conducts summer tours. For a small fee, visitors can climb the 130 steps to the top of the lighthouse, which offers a spectacular view of the dunes and Lake Michigan.

The North and South Pierhead Lights of Pentwater - Only 20 minutes away!

A scenic drive south of town brings you to the quaint village of Pentwater, home to the North Pierhead Light and South Pierhead Light.

Little Point Sable Lighthouse at the Silver Lake Sand Dunes - Only 30 minutes away!

Thirty minutes away from Ludington and only ten minutes south of Pentwater at Silver Lake State Park is the Little Point Sable Lighthouse. This 107’ brick structure was constructed in 1874, with an automated light installed in 1954. The white paint on the tower was sandblasted away in 1977, and rocks have been added near the base to prevent erosion.

From Big Point Sable (big point of sand) down to Little Point Sable (little point of sand), there’s plenty of area lighthouses to visit, making your vacation to Ludington one to remember.
